Microsoft Word Shortcuts

Here are some common shortcuts for Word for Windows. The list is by no means exhaustive, if you want a complete listing try looking up 'keyboard shortcuts' from the help index in Word. If any of these are difficult to understand please try them and hopefully they will become clearer.

If you are a spreadsheet user you may find an equivalent list in the Shortcuts for Excel.

 
+ Saves the current document.
+ Brings up the print dialogue box.
+ + , , , ... Sets the style of the current paragraph to Heading 1, Heading 2, and so on.
+ + Sets the style of the current paragraph to the Normal style.
+ + or Inserts a non-breaking space (or hyphen) into the text so you can keep two words together on the same line.
+ +
+ + or Toggles the display of non-printing characters such as spaces, paragraph markers and hidden text.
+
+ Toggles subscript text formatting.
+ + Toggles superscript text formatting.
+ or Moves you to start of the next paragraph in the appropriate direction.

+ Selects all the text in the document.
+ Brings up the Replace dialogue box.
+ or Undoes the last action.
+
+ Toggles Bold face on the current selection.
+ Toggles Italic face on the current selection.
+ Toggles Underline face on the current selection.
+ Brings up the Font dialogue box.
(In early versions this toggles Double Underlined face on the current selection.)
+ , , , Sets the justification of the current paragraph (or the selected text) to Left, Centred, Right or Full.
+ Inserts a line break. Thus the text following is placed on a new line but is still in the same paragraph.
+ Inserts a page break.
+ + and Decrease or Increase the point size of text to the next available size.
+ +
+ and Decrease or Increase the size of text by 1 point.
